Join Us
Whether you have lived in Austin a short time or have been here for decades, you know that Austin continues to be a thriving and dynamic city that is growing in size and complexity. If you are a leader in your local community or would like to help shape and influence your community, consider joining the Austin Neighborhoods Council (ANC). Being an informed community member can be challenging, and even overwhelming; one way to be better informed and to participate in neighborhood issues is to become a member of the ANC.

Founded in 1973, the ANC serves as an umbrella organization that supports neighborhood interests. The ANC provides an important neighborhood forum where information about a variety of topics is shared. ANC is a valuable resource for neighborhoods that is not available elsewhere. ANC is a great place to learn, meet new people, solve problems, and "network." ANC's motto is "strength in numbers."

Benefits of Membership:
-
Experience and Expertise: The ANC membership includes a wide array of professions and diverse backgrounds. Many members are subject matter experts in various fields, or have become very knowledgeable on specific issues. They can be used as resources to a "short cut" for an informed opinion or how to initiate a process. Sometimes the most valuable information is knowing who to call to get started on an issue.
-
Network of Contacts within City and County Government: City Council members and key department heads look to the ANC when they seek neighborhood involvement. Our membership is quite active and visible at public hearings and planning processes where input is solicited. Both sides value this positive rapport and "personal connection" that can be used to make introductions to new ANC members and community leaders.
-
General Membership Meeting: Information sharing is one of ANC's trademarks;
-
Candidate Forum: A specific event that some members consider a highlight of ANC meetings is the forum for candidates of municipal elections. ANC has the best citywide candidate forum! Gaining the endorsement of the ANC is treasured as candidates know the ANC is comprised of active community leaders who share their opinions and thoughts with others.
